Can't facebook do this? Can't instagram do this?

yes and no. if you join facebook or instagram and make it private, you can accept only your friends. These social media sites do a ton of other things. You also need to remember a password. All of your family members need and account, grandparents need to remember passwords. They all need to add you. And lets face it, facebook or instagram doesn't feel private anymore. You are shown ads constantly, you are shown pages you're not interested in, you are shown articles that make you want to argue. Facebook turns into doomscrolling. The family newsletter is a core update for random things that happen in your lives that don't need to be posted on the internet. If you want to use those sites, use those instead.

This feels like it's meant to replace conversations and group chats with the people I care about?

it's not meant to replace communication but I would say that some things can be redirected to your family newsletter update. Is it urgent? No? Post it in the family newsletter. It shouldn't replace communicating with the people you love. We all are in a lot of group chats, we all have a lot of messages. When you share something in the family newsletter, it doesn't need to be grand, it doesn't need to be tiny, it's not meant for the world to see. It's a little update for your family that doesn't need to be 10 phone calls or a group chat blast.

This is another place that I am sharing my data, how do I know it is secure?

I don't want your data any more than you want to share it with me, but without you building your own family newsletter app I need to be able to store some amount of your data. You opt in with your email, I will never send you spam, advertisements, or sell your email to anyone else. You share just the content you want to share with your family. I have no interest in keeping it or reading it, but by nature it cannot be encrypted as it needs to be generated and passed on to your family in an unencrypted way. If you cancel your account, we retain the data for 30 days in case there was something that you wanted to come back and catch before we delete all of the data from the system.

What happens if the admin cancels and they have submitters, what happens to the submitters data?

Submitters could be submitting to multiple newsletters if they are a part of more than one. Think about 2 families having 2 seperate newsletters. If one family cancels their newsletter, they will still be submitting to another newsletter. If the submitters are not a part of any other newsletter their data will be cleared.

Is my data truly private or is it used for marketing purposes?

Your data will never be used for marketing purposes. Your data will never be used for training anything. Your data that you post for your subscribers will never be delivered to anything or anyone one else. Email Encrpytion is not achievable so your data is as private as sending a normal email to someone else. Your submitters send an email into the system to generate a newsletter, the system generates that newsletter and send it to your subscribers. That's it. This has been designed with intent to be private for you and your subscribers.

What is the age restriction for this newsletter app?

The age restiction for admins is 18+. The age restrictions for submitters is 14+. There is no age restriction for subscribers. Your submitters should not be under the age of 14 years old. If there are any updates that would like to be shared by someone under 14, have the update get sent by someone older.

I am submitter on multiple newsletters, what if I don't want to share an article with one of them?

There is no way to do this right now. If you are a submitter to multiple newsletters, your article will be shared with every newsletter's release. The way around this is to use a different email for different newsletters if you want to change which newsletter gets what articles.

what happens to the data that I posted 1 year ago?

the data submitted for articles or posts are deleted after they are used in a newsletter. This way we are not retaining data longer than needed. The email history will be for your personal retention.

how can a submitter get their data removed from the system if they don't have an account?

Go to Delete my information, put in your email address and press the button. A link is sent to that address, and opening it within 30 minutes removes you from every newsletter on this service and deletes anything of yours we still hold. It works the same way as unsubscribing, and it needs no account. Issues already delivered are in other people's inboxes and cannot be recalled.

What happens if I stop paying?

Your newsletter stops going out and nobody on your list is told anything — as far as your readers know, it has been a quiet few weeks. Your writers, readers and anything waiting to be published are kept for 30 days. Pay again in that time and it picks up where it left off. After that it is deleted, and your readers receive one note saying the newsletter has finished.
